Dethsiduals is the seventh episode of Season 3 of Metalocalypse.

Synopsis

The episode begins with Toki and Murderface (well, mostly Murderface) testifying against Dethklok members Skwisgaar, Pickles, and Nathan in the Supreme Court in the U.S. Murderface addresses to the jury that he and Toki deserve to be treated fairly and an equal five week's split on all songwriting residuals. Toki asks Murderface what residuals are, causing the crowd present to murmur among themselves. An annoyed Murderface explains that residuals are where you get paid for writing songs for a band, but Toki points out that Murderface can't even write songs - Nathan is mainly the one responsible for Dethklok's songwriting. Murderface gets angry and tells Toki to shut up, and asks why he is sitting on Dethklok's side when he's supposed to be suing them. The judge raps for order and Murderface requests that Toki's comments be cleared from the record because he's a Norwegian, but Toki asks why they are suing their own band for residuals when he and Murderface aren't capable of writing songs. An angry Nathan calls Toki and Murderface "dildos" and protests that the trial is a waste of court time. Their band manager Ofdensen offers to clear the confusion of the situation by explaining to the judge and jury that Toki and Murderface do not contribute to Dethklok's songwriting on a daily basis; therefore they should not receive residuals. He also supports his claim by stating so on the contract signed by them in a deal with Crystal Mountain Records, saying that Toki and Murderface do recieve two-percent of the money back on record sales and tells the crowd that the two musicians are multibillionaires. The crowd gasps at this, and the judge announces that the trial is dismissed. On their way back, while the rest of Dethklok walk among the paparazzi (and flip them off), a distraught Murderface shouts to the sky that this is "insane".

While heading back to Mordhaus in their limousine Toki and Murderface sit alone, while their bandmates and Ofdensen sit across from them. Murderface asks if they have no hard feelings against them from the lawsuit and Skwisgaar, Nathan, and Pickles glare angrily at them, indicating that they do. Ofdensen says that he has no hard feelings and apologizes for humiliating them in court; Toki as usual accepts, while Murderface is still unhappy about the results. Murderface then hears Nathan sighing loudly and asks what is on his mind, and Nathan yells at him that he and Toki have sued them, and asks why they aren't riding back home in a different car. Murderface comments that there is nothing wrong with carpooling since they live in the same place, and Nathan replies that he doesn't want to be around him and Toki if he's going to get sued for "breathing too loud". Murderface says he would if possible since it's pretty clear where the situation is heading. Then the band members get a call from Roy Cornickelson, who tells them that the deadlines for their new album is being set for the "seventeenth" this month. Ofdensen tells him that things aren't working so well with the lawsuit but gets hung up. Nathan comments that having time that short to produce and album is pretty tough, but hears Skwisgaar and Pickles mentioning going to a winery in France out loud for Toki and Murderface to hear and shushes both of them. Toki asks why they had been invited and Nathan tries to drop the subject, while Murderface is annoyed that the two of them aren't invited to France. Skwisgaar tells them that the trip to France is a little out of their price range so he and his bandmates don't want to discuss it with them, and Pickles asks if he's going to complain about the price and make his bandmates pay for it. Murderface makes the mistake of saying yes, causing Nathan to tell the driver to pull over and angrily orders Murderface to walk home on foot. Murderface is left behind on the road and expresses his hatred towards the world, and hallucinates that he is talking to two attractive women at the beach about his woes, when actually he is sitting in the streets talking to two homeless people.

At the recording room Nathan, Skwisgaar, and Pickles are with producer Dick "Magic Ears" Knubbler while Skwisgaar is practicing guitar. Meanwhile Murderface is telling Toki that they both have to get some songs on the requested new album, but Toki says that he hasn't any ideas. Murderface admits that he doesn't either but shows him a book, supposedly titled in bold print, "CHIMING IN: MAKING REAL MONEY WHILE PRETEND SONGWRITING", saying that while the other guys are busy producing their songs, Toki and Murderface insert their own songs into the album and get their shares. Toki asks what they should do again, and Murderface gets frustrated with his idiocity. Skwisgaar is discussing with Nathan and Pickles about a guitar solo he's been practicing with when the trio finds Toki and Murderface copying everything that Skwisgaar is saying in the conversation. Murderface tells Knubbler to write down everything that they have repeated (muttering an apology to Nathan and Pickles), and Knubbler writes down everything they explicitly said, but Murderface tells him to write down his song collaboration with Toki. But Nathan calls the both of them idiots because he saw that Toki and Murderface did a repetition of what Skwisgaar said. Miffed, Murderface decides to write his own music piece for his bass guitar without any help; unfortunately Murderface takes four hours to even think of one, and when Skwisgaar offers to help he refuses it, to Knubbler's frustration. Eventually he decides to rush through and plays blindly, to Skwisgaary's dismay, before going out to eat after seeing Klokateers putting down food, including olives with pita bread. Nathan, disgusted, comments to Pickles on how bad the bass piece sounded and Pickles agrees, but Murderface hears it. Knubbler expresses his doubts but Murderface assumes he is being "insubordinate" and threatens him to fix the bass piece he made, which he does while the bassist eats. Toki glances sadly at Nathan.

After a long time an exhausted Knubbler shows the bass piece he fixed for Murderface, but without Nathan's songwriting to organize it, it sounds really terrible. Pickles, Nathan, and Skwisgaar are very repulsed by Murderface's piece and Skwisgaar tells Nathan that he is not going to sleep for a few days if he does the guitar work himself. Nathan agrees and decides to eat, but discovers that Murderface and Toki have eaten all the food. Ofdensen comments on the hard work that the band members are doing, ignoring the fact that Murderface and Toki are sleeping, and announces that they are ready to go to France. On the airplane, while Toki and Murderface sleep, Skwisgaar and Pickles talk about how angry they are about the both of them being full of themselves and think that they are going to receive full credit for writing their album. Nathah assures them that they are going to take off some of their troubles with wine once they get to France. Upon arriving in Bordeaux, France the next day, Toki angrily complains upon hearing the news that it costs 150 dollars just to get into the winery. Pickles angrily replies that Toki is complaining about flying to France and not getting to taste wine because he is "cheap". Murderface argues that they can't spend that much money because of the way the economy is and says that he and Toki are going to wait outside. Pickles gets very frustrated with them and decides that he'll pay for all the expenses, even though Nathan tells him not to. Toki is happy, while Murderfaces puts an arm around Pickles's shoulder and asks him if he is doing it for himself. Pickles just orders him to go inside. Unfortunately for the rest of Dethklok, Murderface and Toki drunkedly make a mess of the winery by smashing all the wine bottles appalling the respectable people attending there, so Nathan apologizes to the angry winery owner in French for his bandmates' behavior and Pickles pays him to replace the broken wine bottles. Once everyone is back on the plane, a furious and embarrassed Nathan slaps a sleeping Toki and Murderface awake and angrily informs them that they are both fired from Dethklok because he and the others are tired of having to put up with them, and are not going to give them any more chances. Toki and Murderface are shocked by the news.

Once back at Mordhaus, Murderface and Toki are informed by Ofdensen in his office that they are put on musical suspension for a month - that means that they'll have to turn in their respective instruments and their Dethklok membership badges. Murderface is angry at this decision, but Ofdensen offers him alternative ways to make money other than performing with Dethklok, causing him to change his mind and take up the offer. After that he and Toki attend as judges for a talent show called "American Super Talent Havers" where they see nu metal band Get Thee Hence perform a song during a concert. They like their performance so much that they decide to take them in under a record label dubbed MurderTooth Records. Then things start to get bad when the members of the new band demand to be driven in a tour van. Murderface assumes that they are asking for money, causing the band members to suspect that he and Toki are just ordinary bums. Murderface insists that they aren't and has Toki give him his checkbook where he sets the band salary, after being ganged up on, to five thousand dollars.

That night Murderface is ordered to drive the band, who seem to have befriended Toki easily, to a place to stay and ends up taking them all to Mordhaus, where Murderface and Toki introduces the band members to Nathan, Skwisgaar, and Pickles. Upon being told that Get Thee Hence is a nu metal band, Nathan openly refers to the band as "outdated" and calls Murderface a failure. Murderface explains that he and Toki are now working with Get Thee Hence and Dethklok is in the past now. Nathan and Pickles ask if Murderface is using his own salary to pay his new band, and Murderface informs them that he and Toki are under suspension. After that Murderface shows the new headquarters for Get Thee Hence: a dingy pipe room. However the band members are appalled by the conditions, so Murderface is forced to give them his own bedroom, where they break an expensive Genghis Khan statue. Then the lead vocalist demands that Murderface give them some booze to drink, and Murderface says that he's their record manager but they order him to, and he complies. At the recording room, Nathan, Skwisgaar, and Pickles have successfully recorded forty-seven songs for their album but get the feeling that things are getting too easy ever since they fired Murderface and Toki. A little later the members of Get Thee Hence, including Toki, either stoned our passed out with a few hookers. Murderface is appalled by this and questions Toki, who explains that he and the band members were partying all night. Murderface drags Toki to a closet so they can talk privately, and reminds him about the MurderTooth Records label and that they have to record a debut album for their new band. He asks Toki if he handled the songwriting residual contracts and Toki says yes, and Murderface is relieved because the contracts are very important apparently so they can be given credit for the songs.

During a recording session, the guitarist of Get Thee Hence passes out and hurts his head on the window. Murderface asks Toki if he is on heroin, and Toki reveals that all of the members of their band are heroin addicts and confirms it by showing needle marks on another band member's arms. Murderface says that he thought the marks were arm freckles and gets very frustrated, realizing that he and Toki have to write Get Thee Hence's new album by themselves since the members are too stoned to do anything. After a long, painstaking process, Toki and Murderface, tired and starving, decide to eat when they find that all the food have been eaten by the band. Afterwards the whole band gets ill and vomit all over the floor, and order Murderface to clean it up. Murderface realizes that their habits and personalities as a whole are even worse than his own bandmates from Dethklok. Meanwhile Nathan, Pickles, and Skwisgaar are listening to one of their newly recorded songs on their laptop in a hot tub. Nathan tells Pickles to stop the track, which he does, and Pickles tells them that the new music sounds as if they are too happy and content with Toki and Murderface gone. Nathan realizes that without Toki and Murderface in the band, their songs lack the negativity that the songs need. Skwisgaar and Pickles agree, since they dislike their new songs anyway and are starting to miss their bandmates, and allow Nathan to "delete" all the forty-seven songs - in other words, submerge the laptop and its hard drive in the hot tub. Meanwhile an abused Murderface sobs while he tries to clean up the mess from earlier, when the band members of Get Thee Hence appear demanding money from him. Murderface offers them a huge advance but the band's DJ reveals that they had spent it all and they need money know, and the bassist is left unsure about what to do.

After the end of the month suspension, during a Dethklok meeting, Ofdensen tells Nathan, Skwisgaar, and Pickles (who are still angry at Toki and Murderface for what they did before their getting kicked out) that since they deleted all their recorded songs they completely missed the proposed deadline, while a deprived Toki and Murderface had written an entire album by themselves and are given the choice to leave or join Dethklok again. Murderface, seeing the opportunity, begs his bandmates to let him back because he is tired of being abused. Nathan decides to let him back saying that he is an important asset to Dethklok despite being a dick most of the time, and even allows Toki to join, too. With that, the band members reconcile with each other. Later on the news Dethklok lets Get Thee Hence do an opening performance for a Dethklok concert for the first time (though it seems Toki and Murderface convinced them to do so) with their debut album. Murderface and Toki celebrate their hard work, but are told that they don't get any credit for it because Toki has signed all the songwriting residuals contracts in Norwegian, angering Murderface. During their debut public performance, Get Thee Hence are immediately booed by the Dethklok fans attending the concert and are assaulted by them on stage in front of the members of Dethklok, who all are appalled by the whole scene.

Trivia

  • The talent show American Super Talent Havers where Get Thee Hence performs is an obviously apparent parody and reference to real-life talent show "American Idol".
  • When the members of Get Thee Hence are introduced to Nathan, Pickles, and Dethklok, Nathan refers to their nu metal style as outdated when he says, "Somebody tell this band what year it is." He is most likely right: Nu metal is a subgenre made by fusing heavy metal with grunge and hip hop, and many times nu metal songs focus on themes of pain and alienation that were featured in grunge bands. It was popular between the late 1990's and the early 2000's before its popularity waned by the start of 2002.
  • The song Get Thee Hence played in their introduction and ending of Dethsiduals is a parody of hand Papa Roach's single "Last Resort". Most likely Get Thee Hence is a parody of Papa Roach itself.
