“Some Time Ago...” is a song by virtual American melodic metal band Dethklok. It was released as a scene in The Doomstar Requiem, and later on its eponymous soundtrack—the band’s fourth full-length album. It was written and sung by Brendon Small, featuring Mike Keneally as Toki.
Concept[]
The song was how—under extreme duress—Toki chose to remember story of when Dethklok first met Toki. After firing Magnus, Pickles held a band meeting and arranged an audition for a second guitarist despite Skwisgaar’s objections. Pickles agreed to let him be the sole guitarist of Dethklok if he succeeded in besting every auditioner—over a thousand—which proved to be quite a simple task for him. Just as Skwisgaar was basking in his victory, a homeless teenager showed up late and introduced himself as “Toki from Norway.” He begged for a chance to audition and Skwisgaar agreed to test him.
Toki introduces himself to Dethklok
The scene shows the characters’ appearance at the age when Dethklok began; all of them appear noticeably younger than present day—with the exception of Skwisgaar, who appears less gaunt and wearing all-white. Pickles appears to have much more of a leadership role at this point in Dethklok’s past, with Nathan saying very little. Skwisgaar also seems to have much more of a loner attitude at this time, sitting apart from the others during their band meeting.
